The Black Houses
We went to visit a church pastored by some friends of ours in Olympia, WA. Their church is surrounded by several all black houses. The houses are painted all black, doors, window sills, roofs, etc. Finish is matte or glossy. Eerie feelings as you drive by.
We had been told that the story is that a Satanist owns the homes and wants to have them placed in such a format as to create a pentagram (the symbol for Satan worship). If this is true then that explains the sense of oppression and fear you can feel as you near them. One of the homes we saw was painted the black matte finish and then had blood red paint accenting and just as ominous a feel to it. I don’t go looking for a demon under ever rock, but wow what a sense of evil we experienced, makes my stomach queasy.
Rod and I felt the need to just stop and pray in front of one of them to pray against the demonic forces working against God’s people within this body of believer’s and the rest of the Kingdom. So we did. I have never wanted to run so fast as I did while he prayed for God to bind the forces of evil and to release God’s blessing and hope over the area. You may find me crazy but sincerely I was afraid. I could not look about me for fear of seeing a demon. I could not concentrate for fear of being caught by one. My mistake was not stopping to pray for protection before I/we engaged in spiritual battle on the borderline between heaven and hell.
Now whether or not these houses really are owned by Satanists (or a slumlord as some of the blog posted info states) really isn’t the issue. What is more important is the understanding of what happens when you take a stand for Christ. When Rod and I pulled up to the curb next to the “Black House” we were in essence pulling our spirits up next to Satan’s domain and saying hey buddy we are sitting outside of your home and praying for your defeat in Jesus name hope you don’t mind and even if you do, we are praying anyway.
Rod felt a demon pressing against the window on his side of the vehicle. I could not look. I am a visual learner and know better than to place my eyes in a direction that will present a vision I don’t want impressed in my brain. I just wanted out. I was so proud of my husband for praying so boldly and not so happy with myself for lacking that same boldness. I drove the vehicle and parked it there, but he confessed the words and God provided the protection.
It was an experience we will continue to pray over. One we would like to follow up on. To pray more boldly and effectively for salvation for those oppressed and misguided and for the times we are in. For such a time as this….we are praying….
“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14 NIV
“How could one man chase a thousand, or two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, unless the Lord had given them up?” Deut 32:30 NIV
Sometime ago I had been quite perplexed with why it was so necessary to have all these names and places in the Old Testament about this King and Kingdom and that. What was the purpose in even being able to pronounce the names and wonder where they were located as many of the places have been renamed and captured and re-established even yet again! These thoughts came about after a conversation I had with a really sharp Christian woman I know that had been attending Regent’s College out of Canada working towards the completion of her Masters in Christian Education degree. She was able to talk about these Kingdoms and names so easily and give details and information as though it were written in English originally. I began to compare my lack of theology and understanding to her great ability to get it. Well first of all I have no business comparing myself to someone else, but here I was, feeling less because my brain doesn’t work quite like that. Ugh! I am more practical and hands on, more visual and demonstrative. So I left her place feeling less, not because she was trying to do that to me, but because I was comparing me with her. Anyway…I love what God does in reaffirming our spirits and reminding us that we all matter to him and have a place to serve in His Kingdom. And he even answered my why about history question with a very simple and practical poem:
“Great grandma got it,
Momma forgot it,
and Baby never heard.”
Without knowing about history how do we know the direction to go?
In Proverbs 22:6 (NIV) we read “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”
Deuteronomy 11:19 (NIV) Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
So to those of you who wonder like I did, that is why.
